the soul sisterhood
My friend Amanda works as the middle school youth director at her church. A few years ago she created the Soul Sisterhood Retreats, weekend or week-long camps for girls. They focus on cooking, sewing, crafting, journaling, building deep friendships with one another and to be empowered in their unique identity in Jesus.
The retreats are intentionally small in size...limited to only 15-20 girls per camp. There is a camp grandma who is there simply to love the girls. There is a camp cook who helps the girls make and bake all the goodies they will eat all week. The counselors are just a bit older than the girls and there to serve as mentors and role models. The camps meet at a farmhouse just outside of the cities. Elsie and I get to help lead a Mother-Daughter retreat in August. We are very excited.
This summer I am going to be guest posting on The Soul Sisterhood's blog. I will be walking through a journaling process as we look at our own lives as if they were the pages in a really good book. What is the climax we are working towards? Who are the supporting characters in our lives who are actually supportive? Are there plot lines we need to walk away from, is there something else we are being called towards?
I would love for you to join us this summer in walking through this writing process. The blog is geared towards tweens and teens but readers of all ages are welcome. So come on over! Oh Becca, you have no idea how wonderful this news is to me! This is exactly what I've been praying for...something for Isabella & I to do together to strengthen her in her identity as a girl and child of God, and also to build us up in our faith. Although, she's a bit young, I'm definitely planning on following every moment of the Soul Sisterhood with you. I am so grateful you are living out God's plans for you and sharing your gifts with the world!
Becca, this sounds like the perfect thing for a girl Anna's age. Unfortunately, the middle school camp are full this year. Anna is going to Spirit in the Pines this summer, but this camp sounds AMAZING. Camp Grandma to love on you? There is not an 11 to 14-year old girl who couldn't use a week of that! :)
Thanks for the shout out! I love that you are joining us for our Mother/Daughter retreat and as a guest blogger. Thank you for being a part of my dream!
Paige, I love this so much. And Isabella will totally jump on board with all of this. It's not anything heady, just thoughtful. And a great practice for looking at your life and recognizing that you have a whole lot of influence on how your life turns out! :)
Nicki, I am bummed the junior high camps are full, but so excited about the thought of Anna coming to one next summer (or this winter for a retreat). When Amanda first told me about her camps I about died. I would have LOVED this sort of thing in middle school. So here's to hoping next year works out!
And Amanda, so happy to be a part of this. I have a feeling these retreats are going to be big. Really, really big.
I wish I had something like this when I was growing up! In fact, I could use it now too :-)
