We have a Christmas Decoration Graveyard on our kitchen counter. It seems to grow each day. I never thought Ivar was quite so destructive, but clearly nothing is safe.
About a week ago I said to Rory, "I was in a great mood this morning. I can't figure out why I'm so crabby now." And he replied, "does it have anything to do with the beheaded angel on the counter?" Yes! That was it! Not to mention the wings, king's arm and robe and Joseph's staff.
I was really bent out of shape about the red ornaments with the wood curls that used to be inside of them, a very special decoration from my Aunt Jan and Uncle Don. I was sad about this until my sister said that her wood curls had been ripped out years ago by Mara and Sonna when they were each about two years old as well. And for some reason this brought me comfort. Maybe that's just how those ornaments look if you have little kids around.

I have a sheep with a bitten off nose that I put out every year as a sweet reminder of a different time in our lives. Hold on to the memories.
I remember when you were little, Grandma and Grandpa Bredberg went to the Holy Lands and brought us an olive wood nativity set with the condition that it was for the grandchildren to touch, play with and enjoy. you did all three with many resulting injuries to the pieces but you dearly loved playing with them and they were repaired many times!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Noah's 3-1/2 and we still have a rather massive "graveyard of Christmas decorations" (as you so eloquently put it) on our kitchen counter as well. The good news is that Isabella has not broken a single ornament, decoration, or figurine in all of her 7 years of life. So maybe there's hope for Elsie! :)
Yeah, I tease the kids that I'm going to come to their houses and do all the things they've done to mine.
Wrestle and break the handle on the oven door, kick all the magnets off the fridge, bust their lamps, etc. etc.
Except now a few of them have their own homes, and I can't bring myself to do that to my son in law or daughters in law, lol!
Hang in there. I do understand. love, Val
We don't have a Christmas graveyard, but somehow these words came as encouragement to a momma who had to say "no" a lot yesterday. (And, therefore, feels a little broken herself) Thank you!
This is all so good to hear. And to remember that I was the one who busted Jesus' hand off of the nativity from Grandma and Grandpa Bredberg. Me! Sweet me!
My plan is to get some wood glue, ceramic glue and every other epoxy at menards and look at this graveyard as a little craft project.
And maybe one day I'll cherish my little beheaded angel.
